Overview: The Doge of Venice is a board game I and two colleagues of mine made during our first year of university.

Role: Game Designer (3members team)

Duration: 1 month and a half.

Engine: Ink and paper.

Acquired skills: I learnt many game design aspects from this game. I learnt how to make rules, that different dice have different chances to get specific results, that rules have to be concise and simple to read, and how to elicit specific emotions and instincts from players, since this was the aim of the project. I also learnt an important skill: how to paper prototype.

Improved skills: I improved my team-working skills to the point that I became a close friend of one of the members I made this game with. This also was the first time I properly learnt how to manage time, how to work in a team, and what in-game balancing is.

Areas for improvement: This game needs revising in its rules since there are spelling mistakes. Also, the rules could be more easily readable thanks to some changes.

What I'm proud of: This game was the first board game I ever made, and I'm proud to say that we had a lot of prototypes and it went through many iterations and playtests before becoming what it is now. What I'm trying to say is that I'm extremely proud of the design process behind this game.
